Activity ObjectiveDevelop an integrated unit for a one-week period.
Activity DescriptionStudents will design and plan a weeklong thematic learning unit that includes all academic areas. All activities for the unit must be developmentally appropriate, geared to the primary grades, identify the related Sunshine State Standards, include accommodations for special needs and LEP/ESOL students, and include at least one technology related modification. As an extension, each student will create a prop box related to the chosen theme. Each student will present the learning unit and prop box to the class. Each student MUST follow the Lesson Plan format document to complete the planning process.

Activity ObjectiveSelect and explore appropriate software for young children.
Activity DescriptionYou will explore a selection of children's software currently used in Early Childhood classrooms. For each piece of software, you will create an information page detailing the software title, name of software company, appropriate grade level information, a summary of the skills taught using the program, appropriateness for use with special needs and ESOL students, and your ranking of the quality of the software for use by young children.

Activity ObjectiveLearn about appropriate classroom materials for young children
Activity Description: You will create an inventory list of toys, materials, equipment, technology, and supplies for an active learning, developmentally appropriate Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten classroom. The inventory will include culturally relevant and assistive technology materials that meet all developmental modalities as well as support special needs and ELL students.

Activity ObjectiveTo explore reasoning behind appropriate classroom environments
Activity DescriptionEach student will study developmentally appropriate and inclusive early childhood classroom environments appropriate for diverse learners including ELLs and students with special needs. Based on students' observations, one of the classroom environments will be displayed in a 2- dimensional format showing the room design, layout of centers, location of furniture, and traffic flow patterns.
